SQUIRREL – “During her investigations Joey had run in the bedroom just screwing around like he always does between her legs and kind of startled her,” explained Pearl. “She says ‘Whoa, what was that?,’ and I said ‘Ahhh don’t worry about that, that’s just Joey, my pet squirrel’.” Turner asked Pearl if Joey would bite.
“Well, he usually doesn’t bite but you never know because he is a squirrel,” Pearl said. Turner went on her way, only to return a few hours later with some of Pearl’s stolen belongings and some unbelievable news. “She said while she was questioning the individual he had scratches on his hands so she asked him, ‘Did you get that from the squirrel?,’ and he says ‘Yeah, damn thing kept attacking me and wouldn’t stop until I left’,” Pearl said.
Joey is now being hailed a hero.
2017 could up being the year of the squirrel, and it all starts with Joey. I’ll be the first to admit that my feelings towards squirrels are mostly negative, but after reading this story, I might have a change of heart. Before I get more into the squirrel business, it has to be said that this burglar should probably find another line of work. His heart isn’t in the robbery game, and Joey the Squirrel proved that. Although if you think about it, a squirrel could be a great guardian. As much as I love my dog, if you plan on robbing my house, just bring a few treats with you and call him a good boy and all my valuables are yours. If you’re robbing a house with a cat then you’re home free, because they’re not putting any of their nine lives on the line for a human. A squirrel? It will claw you to pieces before it lets you take a damn thing from it’s house. I’d say the probability is sky high that the burglar happened to be walking towards Joey’s stash of nuts in the floor boards, but regardless, Joey is a home protecting hero.
Side note – I’ve never been to Idaho, but are pet squirrels a thing there? I’m not going to judge, but if anyone from Idaho is reading this leave me a comment so I know what I’m getting into in case I ever visit.
Dog – Two months ago, a golden retriever named Hero was living on the streets of Istanbul. At the time, Chuck and Lisa Taylor were looking for a friend for their one-eyed golden rescue named Jack.
“Rescue dogs make the world’s greatest companions. I’m convinced that they know,” Chuck Taylor said. “There’s something really special about rescuing a dog.”
Hero and 35 of his golden friends were rescued from Istanbul from the streets and shelters by Adopt a Golden Atlanta. They flew them to Atlanta, where they are now finding each dog a forever home.
The Taylors passed an extensive vetting process from the rescue group and were invited to adoption day. When they met Hero, they fell in love. “Rescuing a dog is a little bit different than going out and buying a purebred dog, there’s no question about that.” Taylor said. “It makes you feel good, it makes your heart feel good. You know that you’re doing something good for the world and the community and for the dog that needed rescuing.”
Hero’s handler told Taylor that 1-year-old Hero had never let anyone rub his belly before. But when Taylor walked into his pen, Hero rolled right over for a belly rub.
Well this is wonderful. Tell me with a straight face you wouldn’t watch a sitcom featuring Hero the rescue dog and Jack the one eyed golden. I’d literally pay money to just watch them get into various hijinks throughout the day. Besides all the necessary television sitcom jokes (seriously, someone make this show) this is just a really heartwarming story. If you live in the US you see dogs in a certain light. They’re lovable pets and people who treat them otherwise are blood thirsty monsters. In other parts of the world, they’re not seen like that, and you have cases where so many dogs are left to survive on their own. Hearing Hero’s story have a happy ending is great, and organizations like Adopt A Golden deserve all the credit they get. With that said, if Hero and one eyed Jack don’t have a joint Instagram page by the end of the day I’ll consider this day a huge loss.
In a world of 9-5 jobs and bills something has got to keep people sane. My something happens to be thinking about having superpowers. Most of the time it is the usual stuff: Flying, x-ray vision, invisibility, super strength, etc. But sometimes the superpowers I wish I had get a tad more specific to the situation at hand: knowing all the answers on Jeopardy, having the ability to make beer and food appear in the fridge, and super grass mowing abilities. Ok, maybe those superpowers are a little less practical than others, but superpowers none the less.
So, what superpowers do you wish you had? Answer the poll below and if you don’t see one that fits you, comment below and let me know!
