Looks Like the 49ers Are Going to the Superbowl: Gene Steratore Will Be the Head Official For Seahawks/49ers
Source – The four teams that will play for the right to head to the Super Bowl were set last weekend. Now the two referees that will legislate the two conference championship games this weekend are also in place.
According to Mike Pereira of FOX Sports, Gene Steratore and Tony Corrente will be the head officials for the AFC and NFC Championship games on Sunday. Steratore will man the NFC game between the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks. Corrente will get the AFC battle between the New England Patriots and Denver Broncos.
Steratore has not yet been assigned to work a Super Bowl in his time as a referee. Corrente was the head referee for Super Bowl XLI between the Indianapolis Colts and Chicago Bears. Corrente also worked the 2009 AFC Championship game between the New York Jets and Indianapolis Colts and the 2000 NFC Championship between the Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants.
Do we even need to play the game anymore? Seattle and their cheating leader Pete Carrol should just stay in the locker room Sunday night, because if this isn’t a sign from the heavens I don’t know what is. The best and my favorite referee, Gene Steratore, will be the head official in Seattle Sunday night. Most nonchalant ref in the business today. Gorgeous head of hair. You really couldn’t ask for a better start to an NFC title game with your hated rival.
Prediction: 49ers 63 Seattle -4
I’m having a hard time coming up with another explanation for this picture. It’s one thing to run all the way onto the field after the play is over. It’s ANOTHER thing to be completely on the field while the play is going on. It’s like he just forgot where he was or what he was supposed to be doing and just wanted to see the play. I don’t know if I should be happy or concerned that this man is leading my favorite football team into the Conference title game. The only comforting thing is I know he won’t be psyched out in Seattle. You can’t psych out a crazy person.
I don’t think I’ve ever been this excited for a coordinator to become an interim head coach. Then again, it’s not everyday that someone with Jack Del Rio’s sense of style is given this opportunity. You have to figure that the camera’s will pan to Del Rio at least 20 times Sunday, so if he wears the wrong outfit Denver might just fire him on the spot. I’d go with the dress shirt and tie, but instead of a sport coat, I’d throw on an official Denver Broncos leather jacket. It’s already a given that Denver will beat San Diego on the road, so the only thing left to focus on is Jack Del Rio’s wardrobe. I have a feeling he’s going to blow us all away.
P.S. There’s a 90% chance Del Rio refuses to give John Fox his job back. He’s the ultimate wildcard.
He has to, right? People might have him beat in the forehead department but not in overall head size. His head honestly looks like it weights 200 pounds. I’m surprised he’s not dead based purely on the fact that his neck just collapsed under the weight of his enormous head. John Madden is now forever going to be the king of huge heads, along with his queen, Rihanna.
