Daniel Bryan Returned To Raw Last Night To Announce He’ll Be Entering The 2015 Royal Rumble

What an emotional roller coaster last night was. First, Bryan tweeted that he had come to a crossroads and was going to make an announcement on Raw. Naturally people jumped to the ‘he’s going to retire’ conclusion, since he’s been out for months and no one really knows what’s wrong with him. Then WWE opened Raw with Edge’s retirement speech, signifying maybe someone else was going to make a similar speech and leave us way, way too early. When Bryan came out for the next to last segment, I had some hope that he wouldn’t be announcing his retirement. When the time comes for him to truly hang up his wrestling boots, I hope WWE gives him the final segment, as he’s earned it. Bryan’s promo was from the heart, and he seemed to legitimately tear up talking about the passing of his father, but all our worries melted away when Bryan finished his promo by announcing that he would be entering the 2015 Royal Rumble. To say this is huge news would be understatement. Bryan’s rise to the top of the WWE food chain was a true grass roots movement created by the performer and his fans, and when he was on his game, WWE was always must see TV. I think some people might be worried about Bryan returning, since we still don’t really know how well is recovering, but WWE has been extremely patient with Bryan up to this point, and there’s no reason to think they’d rush him back if he wasn’t ready. The Royal Rumble is already one of the most exciting nights of the WWE year, but with Daniel Bryan now officially returning as an entrant, it just got so much better. YES!

Hulk Hogan Was Not Happy Rusev Won the US Title Last Night

image

Spoiler alert if you didn’t expand your usual 3 hours and 15 minutes of wrestling on Monday night and watch the post Raw US title match: Rusev won the gold. Also, Hulk Hogan is not happy about it. I know that Hogan knows this is all fake, but if there’s one person who is insane enough to think this is semi real, it’s Hulk Hogan. I know for a  fact he’s training right now in an American flag t-shirt just waiting for the call so he can come and save America. Side note: we do not need John Cena. WWE is finally building a guy the right way. Please keep John Cena as far away as possible.

The Wyatts Aired Another Cryptic Promo On Raw, This Time Featuring Erik Rowan

THIS. This is what the WWE needs. Last week The Wyatt’s aired a promo clueing us in their mysterious absence from WWE TV, specifically keying on Wyatt family member Luke Harper. This week, a similar promo aired, this time focusing on Erik Rowan. The promos are eerily similar, except the end, which this week featured a pregnant woman with the words “it’s coming” drawn onto her stomach. It seems as if WWE is branching each member of the Wyatt Family off on their own, which I think will ultimately be a very good thing. Having the Wyatt Family mutually split now makes a reunion down the road not only more likely, but it will make more sense. As far as the “it’s coming” portion of the promo, this could signify a couple things: the rebirth of the Wyatt Family as individuals, or a new member that is coming to wreak havoc on the WWE roster. Wyatt consistently mentions a “her” in his promos, which seems to be a reference to Sister Abigail. My bet is that the pregnant woman shown signifies the rebirth of the Wyatt Family mission, which could be the beginning of the Dark Ages era in the WWE, with Wyatt and his family on top. The Wyatt’s are starting to create a buzz again. Someone keep John Cena as far away as possible please.

The Rock Returned to Monday Night Raw Last Night To Defend America

There are two reactions to The Rock coming back last night. 1. Awesome. 2. Why did a part timer (or less than part timer) come back and beat up Rusev, the unbeatable heel who was literally killing all our country’s heroes?. My thoughts on The Rock’s return lie somewhere in the middle. Yes it was awesome having him back, as I’m pretty sure he could come back at 80 years old, have his 10 minute entrance where the crowd goes crazy, and still crack a few jokes. On the other hand, what was the point of this? Rusev can beat every actual wrestler he faces, including The World’s Strongest Man and a 7 foot giant, but he can’t get a punch in on an ex wrestler turned movie star? The biggest mistake WWE makes is bringing in celebrities from other mediums and having them look superior to their wrestlers. Remember when Florida Georgia Line beat up Mizdow? Or when Flo Rida beat up Heath Slater? I understand you want the celebrities to interact with the wrestlers, but having someone come in for a one week appearance appear tougher and stronger than a guy who is here every week trying to get over with the crowd as a wrestler is dumb. That wasn’t necessarily the case here, because The Rock is a former champ, but this served no purpose. It makes Rusev look weak, and it makes The Rock look strong. The only problem with that is The Rock is going back to Hollywood, and Rusev has to show up next week on Raw and try to prove why he’s a monster heel again. If you ever wonder why the WWE can’t build stars like they used to, now you have your answer: they’re too busy stroking the ego’s of stars from the past.

What Does the New Wyatt Family Promo On Raw Last Night Mean For Their Future?

The Wyatt Family first appeared on our TV screens via mysterious yet intriguing promos in May of last year. It was clear from that first promo that Bray Wyatt and his duo of bearded monsters were not your average superstars. In an era when the debuts of characters like Fandango and Adam Rose have perplexed that key 18-34 male demographic, Bray Wyatt immediately had our attention, and more importantly, our support. Wyatt, real name Windham Rotunda (son of Mike Rotunda aka IRS, brother of Bo Dallas) was first introduced to the WWE as part of the Nexus under the ring name Husky Harris. He was underwhelming, and after a brief stint on WWE TV, he was sent back down to what is now known as NXT, and soon after the Bray Wyatt character was born. When Wyatt finally debuted, he seemed like a breath of fresh air. His promos were effortless, and his in ring skills, though not on the level of Daniel Bryan or CM Punk, were very good. He had a decent feud with Kane, and a very good feud with Daniel Bryan. Then the wheels fell off.

For whatever reason, the WWE decided to feud Wyatt with John Cena. Wyatt’s reasoning was something we’ve seen before: he wanted John to embrace the dark side that we all knew was inside of him, and Bray was going to bring this dark side out of John no matter what. Wyatt told the WWE Universe he didn’t care about wins or losses; all he really wanted was for John Cena to become a monster. The only problem with this storyline was that in every match Bray Wyatt wrestled, Harper and Rowan were at ringside, and they either helped him win, or interfered to make sure he didn’t lose. Most fans blame the WWE for this hypocritical booking (and probably rightfully so), but the feud with Cena derailed the momentum Wyatt had going for him. You can’t have a character say he doesn’t care about wins and losses in his promos when his actions in the ring prove otherwise. Wyatt losing at WrestleMania to Cena made zero sense, and hurt his character immensely. He gained a win in a cage match at the next pay per view, but only after Harper, Rowan and a singing child prevented Cena from leaving the cage. He went on to feud with Chris Jericho, who has a history of helping build young stars, but unfortunately did nothing for Wyatt.

Wyatt has been conspicuous by his absence from WWE TV over the last few weeks, and last night’s promo was the first we’ve heard from the eater of worlds in quite some time. What does this promo signify? Is Wyatt unleashing Luke Harper on the WWE Universe to do his dirty work? Will we get an Erik Rowan promo next week? Is the Wyatt Family splitting up? My theory is that they will remain as a group, but Harper and Rowan will not be a tag team any longer. Harper will return to WWE TV to seek vengeance on those that have wronged both Wyatt and himself. What this means for Wyatt’s future is anyone’s guess, but I think he’ll also be back soon, hopefully with a slight tweak to his characters in ring agenda. Whatever the case may be, we’re talking about Bray Wyatt again. That’s always a good thing.

P.S. If this tweet doesn’t get your blood pumping for a potential Wyatt/Sting feud you don’t have a pulse.

WWE Is Confiscating Cesaro Signs Because Why Let Your Best Wrestler Get Over?

King of SwingLong time reader and fan here. I was in section 105 and the same guy that always hands out Cesaro signs was there in an El Generico mask. He always hands out the “Cesaro Section” signs but today he handed out “King of Wrestling” signs with Cesaro’s face on it. Security came by during the match and took all the signs. We asked them why and they said, “You don’t need to know why” and “we’re just doing was we’re told.”

It reminded me of the guy who had his Nitro signs taken recently. They seemed to also be on sharper alert concerning inappropriate or off color signs, as they made people mark out the writing or turn in any signs with “sucks” on it.

Aksana Antonio Cesaro animated GIF

My poor Cesaro. My sweet, poor Cesaro. I don’t understand WWE logic sometimes. They continue to give Cena main event match after main event match because they say they have no other viable baby face, yet you take away the signs from the crowd when people try to support another wrestler. That doesn’t make much sense. Everything about Cesaro screams “good guy”. He’s a powerhouse who can have the best match of the night with a guy like Sheamus; he can match quickness with a guy like Rollins; he can match the technical prowess of a guy like Daniel Bryan: he speaks five languages and could be a worldwide ambassador for the WWE. What else would you like this guy to do? Why not let the crowd dictate who they want to see in the main event? It worked for Daniel Bryan, so why wouldn’t it work for fellow Indy wrestler Cesaro? WWE has a superstar in Cesaro, and I hope that they realize it sooner rather than later.

Jerry Springer is Coming to WWE RAW Next Week & I Couldn’t Be More Excited About It

I’ve read a few reports on the Jerry Springer news and people hate it because THIS IS WRESTLING and they don’t want to see any more of this pretty awful Bella Twins storyline. While I can agree with the Bella Twins part, because let’s face it. it’s horrible, I don’t agree with all the hate towards Jerry Springer. The WWE has three hours of television to fill on Monday nights. On last Monday’s Raw, Heath Slater fought a man dressed as a giant rabbit. There are going to be segments that are put into the show just for entertainment. Whether we find those segments entertaining are up to us, but I’d much rather have someone like Jerry Springer out there moderating a Bella Twins segment than Nicki and Brie making fake sad faces and slapping each other for 20 minutes. My only complaint here is that WWE didn’t get Howard Stern. If you want two sisters to really spill the beans/probably make out with each other, you need Howard Stern.

Brock Lesnar Does Not Give a Fuck About You In This Awesome Lesnar/Cena Promo Video From Last Night’s Raw

Last night’s Raw was great, if you like constant WWE Network plugs and 45 second Ziggler/Cesaro matches. Just like any other Raw though, it did have it’s highlights, and one of the bigger highlights was the John Cena/Brock Lesnar rivalry video that WWE is going to use to hype their main event title match at Summerslam. Lesnar doesn’t get to talk often, and for good reason: he has arguably the greatest heel mouth piece in wrestling history. But when he does get to talk, it’s usually a non scripted berating of his opponent and it’s glorious. Lesnar’s WWE deal is unlike any other deal in WWE history, and that’s because there has never been, and probably never will be, anyone like him. He’s a bad guy in every sense of the word, but when he gets in the ring and does his thing it’s impossible not to respect him. Also, Brock Lesnar does not give a fuck about you. Comforting.
