My Favorite Summerslam Moment – Summerslam 2000 1st Ever TLC Match for the WWF Tag Team Championship

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqN6WJ4UY6w&feature=youtube_gdata_player

For the past 25 years, Summerslam has been WWE’s biggest party of the summer. It’s been the showcase for many memorable moments and matches, including Macho Man’s wedding to Miss Elizabeth and the Ultimate Warrior’s first WWF title, a 31 second defeat of then Intercontinental champion “The Honkey Tonk Man”. Perhaps no superstar has a better Summerslam résumé than Bret Hart. The Hitman was a participant in three of the most memorable Summerslam matches of all-time: vs. his brother Owen Hart in a steel cage in ’94, vs. Mr. Perfect for the IC title in ’91, and vs. his brother in law, The British Bulldog, in ’92. The latter of those three has been dubbed the greatest Summerslam moment ever, mostly due to the “family feud” angle leading up to the pay per view and the venue (Wembley Stadium in London, Bulldog’s home country). While their match at SS ’92 was definitely a classic, I went down a different route for my favorite match at the summer classic. The year is 2000, and the WWE is operating at an all time high. The Rock, Kurt Angle, HHH, Stone Cold and The Undertaker are dominating the main event scene, but the consistent show stealing matches are coming from the tag team division. Summerslam 2000 would be no different. Although HHH vs. The Rock vs. Kurt Angle for the WWF championship was the main event, the match people would be talking about was for the tag team titles. The Dudley Boyz, Edge & Christian and The Hardys would compete in the first ever TLC match, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Jo Jo Offerman Is Singing The National Anthem At Summerslam, Which Reminds Me: Isn’t Her Dad Insane?

Jo Jo Offerman, a WWE developmental Diva and star of the E! show Total Divas, is singing the national anthem this Sunday at WWE Summerslam. She’s beautiful, a great singer and very talented in the ring.
image

Pretty normal news story right? Except for the fact that her father, former MLB player Jose Offerman, is insane. In 2007, he was arrested for assault after hitting a pitcher and catcher IN THE HEAD WITH A BAT.

Now I’m sure after somebody does that, they’re never allowed to play the game again. Wrong. Three years later, Offerman punched an umpire while disputing a call.

Those of you who are going to say “well he didn’t actually connect with the punch” are really missing the point. Following this incident, Jose was banned for life by the Dominican Winter League, which apparently means nothing, considering the ban was lifted in February of this year.

Let’s hope Jo Jo does the national anthem justice this Sunday, and pray to God she leaves her dad at home.

Monday Night Raw Recap – 8/12/13

Daniel Bryan vs. Wade Barrett w/ guest ref Brad Maddox

Good match. Daniel Bryan get’s “cheated” out of the win with the Maddox fast count, yet still looks good as he got in a lot of offense. He hasn’t had a bad match in what seems like years. bryan2 copy

Orton vs. Sandow

Really good match. I wouldn’t mind these two feuding, as Sandow could carry the feud on the mic and Orton Is still super over with the crowd. Orton wins after Cody provides the distraction and Sandow gets RKO’d. jh copy

PS- Love Sandow’s briefcase.

Sneaky good Ambrose/Shield promo I can’t see Ambrose losing the US Title anytime soon

Great Lesnar promo! Need more of those. Followed by a CM Punk promo where he quotes one of my favorite TV characters of all time, Omar from the The Wire: “you come at the king, you best not miss”.

Khali and Natalya beat Big E Langston & AJ Lee Filler match, with the ref missing the original submission finish. Probably the last time you see that ref.

VKM/Maddox/HHH promo Maddox as the special guest ref at SS? Or is it HHH? Judging from the pedigree, looks it’s going to be the three H’s.

P.S. Vince’s suit. Male Woof.

Kane vs. Titus O’Neil Kane wins a short match with a choke slam. Here comes the Wyatt’s! Usual entrance, with Bray Wyatt sitting in the rocking chair, while Rowan and Harper enter the ring and stalk their prey. Swerve! Kane sneaks out of the ring, and with the flick of his wrists makes fire come out of the ring posts! Quick, effective segment. Can’t wait for the ring of fire match at Summerslam.

P.S. The goat mask that Erick Rowan rocks is going to be a fashion staple for the Fall of 2013. You can either jump on board or be left in the dust.

Alberto Del Rio def. Kofi Kingston

So glad Kofi is back. Another really good match. Del Rio makes Kofi tap out, but Kofi looked really good in this match. I’m also glad he now wears pants to the ring.

Christian Promo Could it really be his last match? I really hope not.

Zeb Colter and The Real Americans I don’t think there is anyone in the WWE who is better than Zeb on the mic right now. “Letting immigrants cross our boarders like a hoard of rats.”…”if California floats into the Pacific Ocean that is 2.5 million reasons why America is a better place to live.” He could turn any crowd on himself. maxresdefault_crop_north

Also, can we talk about Cesaro’s flag cape? Pure power moves all-around for the Real Americans.

The Real Americans vs. The Usos

Decent match, with The Uso’s picking up the win with a roll up. I’m not sure where they’re going with this storyline, but as much as I like the Uso’s, I’d love to see Cesaro and Swagger got a shot at the tag titles.

Miz TV featuring Cena and Daniel Bryan

Great back and forth. Bryan is slowly becoming a great promo guy and Cena always has an awesome rebuttal. I don’t think HHH needs to be involved, which goes to show how good the lead up has been. They’ve done a great job hyping this match and I think it’ll be the best match of the night on Sunday.

Fandango vs. R-Truth (kind of)

Fandango and R-Truth have a weird dance off. I have to imagine the Miz TV segment ran long so they rushed this one. At least we got to see sweet Summer Rae image WOOF

20 Man Battle Royal – Winner faces US Champion Dean Ambrose at Summerslam

Normal battle royal match. Cool spot with Kofi, Cesaro and Swagger towards the end of the match as Kofi got thrown over the top rope but held onto Cesaro and his feet dangled but never touched the ground ala HBK at the Royal Rumble. RVD and Mark Henry are your final two participants, with RVD picking up the win. The Shield’s music hits, but before they can take out Henry and RVD, the Big Show returns! Could setup a Big Show/Henry vs. Reigns/Rollins match.

Paul Heyman vs. CM Punk

Heyman comes out and runs down Punk on the mic, eventually bringing out Brock Lesnar. He tells Punk he has two choices, either be the “smart coward” and stay backstage and live to fight another day (Summerslam), or be the “stupid hero” and get his ass kicked tonight. Punk’s music hits, but there is no sign of Punk on the entrance ramp. He comes out through the crowd, grabs a camera and bashes Brock over the head. Lesnar takes head shots better than anybody. He beats Brock down with a chair, then chases Heyman up the ramp, where is greeted by Curtis Axel, who gets a GTS on the ramp for his troubles. RAW ends with Punk standing tall and Lesnar licking his wounds outside of the ring.

Overall a really good RAW, with several solid matches and an unbelievable back and forth promo between Cena and Bryan. If you weren’t excited for Summerslam before RAW, you should certainly be excited now.

CM Punk Channels His Inner Roddy Piper During Take Me Out To The Ballgame At Wrigley

Seven-time World Champion CM Punk returned home to Chicago to sing “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” during the seventh inning stretch at Wrigley Field on Tuesday night. The sixth-longest reigning WWE Champion of all-time put an Anaconda Vice-grip on the microphone and belted out a performance Cubs fans seemed to enjoy during a game against the Milwaukee Brewers, that eventually ended in a 3-2 loss to the Central Division rival. Punk made sure no fans in attendance would Go to Sleep during his rendition of the time-honored tradition at the Friendly Confines by proclaiming to the citizens of Chicago that he came to the game to “chew bubble gum and sing,” and that he was “all out of bubble gum,” prior to providing vocal delights to the 31,638 in attendance.” – CSNChicago

Chicago native and the self proclaimed “Best In The World” CM Punk sang “Take Me Out To The Ballgame” last night at the Chicago Cubs game. Channeling his inner Roddy Piper, Punk yelled out to the crowd that he was here to “chew bubblegum and sing”, and that he was all out of bubblegum. Sporting his Wolverine-esque beard, this was Punk’s third ballgame performance at Wrigley in as many years. Punk is no stranger to entertaining an audience, as the world will be watching on August 18th when he takes on Brock Lesnar at WWE Summerslam.

Monsterblog Wednesday: Our Favorite ECW Matches

   ecw2

ECW. Three letters that will live on in wrestling lore forever. What started as a small time Philadelphia based wrestling promotion eventually blossomed into a worldwide phenomenon. ECW became primarily known for it’s particularly violent matches and cult like fan base, but it also showcased great technical bouts, and introduced American audiences to the lucha-libre style of combat that is still popular today. Under the guidance of Paul Heyman, ECW started a revolution in wrestling that is still talked about to this day. Plainly stated, without ECW, there would have never been an “Attitude Era” that so many fans knew and loved. Whether you liked Japanese Death Matches, Barb Wire ropes, Steel Cages or good old fashioned two out of three falls, ECW had you covered. While their were many memorable moments and matches in ECW, we decided to flex our mental muscles and only pick one match each. Here are our favorite matches in ECW history.

The Dudley Boyz vs. Spike Dudley and Balls Mahoney – Chicago Street Fight

If you’ve never watched an ECW match, here is a general rule of thumb: watch a match with The  Dudley Boyz. The Dudley’s had many great feuds in ECW, but the handful of matches they had with their little brother Spike and Balls Mahoney were the most memorable. Cheese graters, thumbtacks and flaming tables. All in a day’s work. Make sure you stick around until the end of this video. A human being is powerbombed through a flaming table.

Mike Awesome VS Masato Tanaka – ECW One Night Stand

Tanaka vs. Awesome. A match, that on paper just doesn’t work.  Has to be one of my favorite feuds in ECW (My favorite is Tazz and Sabu).  Just beating the shit out of each other and loving it. If you looked up “Extreme” in the wrestling dictionary, you would find all their classic matches.  Enjoy

PS- Listen to that crowd!

Kanye West Hates Camera’s

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtIMrm7KG1w&feature=youtube_gdata_player

I’m not a big fan of Kanye. He makes great music, but so do a lot of other people and they’re not the world’s biggest dickhead. I also hate the paparazzi. They’re like the worst villain in your favorite TV show. With that said, I’m on Kanye’s side on this one. It must be so aggravating being followed around by camera’s and asked dumb ass questions everywhere you go. For those of you saying “he’s famous, it’s the price of fame”, go find a highway and play in traffic. You’re telling me that he has to deal with this constant bullshit just because he happens to love music and is better at making it than 99.9% of the people on the planet? I think that’s wrong. I think we should even the playing field. If you’re a paparazzi, anytime you go out in public to hunt down celebrities you should be automatically stripped of your civil rights. They’re already animals, so let’s adopt the rules of the animal kingdom. Kill or be killed. You want a breaking story? How about I punchasize your face..for free.

My only problem with Kanye in this video is that his wrestling approach is all wrong. You need to get close to the paparazzi, about an arm’s length away, but you can’t seem too threatening. Talk to the person calmy, then put your head in your hands, and when they let their guard down, you hit them with sweet chin music. A superkick right to the jaw. Guarantee they’ll be out cold. Then you hover over them and speak the magic words: “if you’re not down with that, I got two words for ya…suck it.”

The Wyatt Family Is Coming…

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJm1TkSpcMs&feature=youtube_gdata_player

I’ve done my best to limit the wrestling talk on Average Nobodies because I know a lot of people don’t get as excited as I do for Monday Night Raw. But tonight marks the debut of a brand new faction in the WWE, the Wyatt Family. Imagine bartender Bill Paxton serving George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg and myself tequilla shots followed by an hour long fake wrestling match. That’s how excited I am for these guys. A breathe of fresh air and a shot in the arm to the wrestling industry. Tune into the USA Network at 8pm tonight and thank me tomorrow. They’re coming.
