My Favorite Sketch From Saturday’s #SNL40Finale – Louis C.K.’s Hilariously Uncomfortable Monologue

This obviously wasn’t a sketch, but it was probably my favorite part of the show. Louis C.K. was tasked with closing out season 40 of SNL, and he did a pretty great job. Louie is always a fun host, and his monologues are usually a shortened version of his stand up act, and he always adds a bit of controversy to his jokes. Saturday’s monologue was no exception, as he started off talking about racism and ended it with an odd homage to sex offenders. As much as bits of it made me uncomfortable, C.K. has the ability to deliver certain jokes or statements that shouldn’t make you laugh in a way that is impossible not to smirk at. He’s facing backlash online over this monologue, but I think Louie knows that no matter what he says, SOMEONE is going to find it offensive, so why not offend the masses?

My Favorite Sketch From Last Week’s #SNL – Mr. Westerberg

Reese Witherspoon stopped by SNL this weekend to pull off the hosting duties, and she was delightful. The show started with a Republican sketch that never really hit, but every sketch Witherspoon was involved in I enjoyed, especially the two times she paired up with Cecily Strong (the LA talk show sketch and Weekend Update). My favorite sketch was actually a Hallmark spoof, with Bobby Moynihan playing the office boss, Mr. Westerberg. All the employees are doing impressions of him in his peculiar voice until Beck Bennett’s character shares a little too much information. The reaction faces from Vanessa Bayer, Reese and Kenan were great, and SNL continues to nail these strange sketches. Louis CK hosts the season 40 finale (!) this Saturday, in what should be an awesome episode.

SNL Has Announced The Last Three Hosts For Season 40 & They’re All Spectacular

Season 40 of SNL is coming to a close, but not before three more action packed episodes starting next Saturday. Scarlett Johansson, Reese Witherspoon and Louis CK will close out the season, with Wiz Khalifa, Florence & The Machine and Rihanna paired up as the musical guests. CK is always wonderful on SNL, and Johansson and Witherspoon are that perfect combination of star power with the ability to get a little bit weird for a laugh. The SNL crew has had a few weeks off, so hopefully they come out swinging for the fences starting next Saturday. If we don’t get an encore edition of Louis as Abraham Lincoln in the season finale I might burn my house down.

My Favorite Sketch From Taraji P. Henson’s #SNL: Teacher Trial

Taraji P. Henson did a great job as host of SNL, but unfortunately for her the SNL crew was in their third straight week of work and it showed as most of the sketches were pretty short. I enjoyed all the premises of the sketches, but a lot of them seemed to end abruptly. Henson pulled out a couple great impressions as Nicki Minaj and Wanda Sykes, but my two favorite sketches were the Game of Thrones parody and ‘Teacher Trial’. Since the GOT sketch isn’t online yet, I decided to go with this one. The premise is simple: a teacher slept with her student and now she’s on trial. The SNL spin is that no one but the boy’s mother is upset about this because the teacher (Cecily Strong) is hot and the student (Pete Davidson) calls it’s the best five weeks of his life. Strong and Davidson are good here, but Kate McKinnon as the grieving mother and Kenan as the impressed judge are awesome. I’m not going to lie, any time I see a news story similar to this I kind of think the same thing. Are kids really that traumatized if they sleep with a hot teacher? Who knows, but SNL nailed this sketch, and I can’t wait for all the backlash because that’s the world we live in.

My Favorite Sketch From Michael Keaton’s SNL: ‘Easter Candy’

Everyone should have known Michael Keaton was going to be fantastic as the host of SNL, but he exceeded my expectations. Keaton has the two things that are necessary to be an excellent host, and they were both on display Saturday night: he has excellent comedic timing and he doesn’t take himself seriously. The second thing seems kind of obvious, but a lot of celebrities come on and won’t throw themselves into characters because their afraid of damaging their own egos, but not Keaton. He played wacky characters all night, but none were weirder than himself in the final sketch of the night. ‘Easter Candy’ was like a deranged version of a Mr. Rogers Easter Special, and Keaton plays himself going through an Easter basket with his assistant/maybe wife Portia. Bobby Moynihan shows up halfway to make a poop noise and it’s just so weird and so wonderful. The best part about SNL is that after FORTY YEARS on the air, they’re still not afraid to get weird. It amazes me that at 70 years old Lorne Michaels is still in tune with his writing staff and let’s them be as wacky as they want. They could easily put out safe sketches and a get a few laughs, but they’re never afraid to go for the home run and just blow you away. I also wish I was in the writers room for this sketch, because I’ve always wanted to know how much the writers wrote and how much the host added his own style to it. The writers definitely came up with all of the jokes, but I have to imagine Keaton created the voice, and his facial expression after he told the audience he gave up cocaine for Lent was amazing. This is Keaton’s first time hosting since 1992, so I can’t imagine he’ll be back soon, but anytime he’s on that stage SNL is in good hands.

Michael Keaton Hosts SNL This Weekend For The First Time Since 1992

It’s kind of amazing that Michael Keaton has only hosted SNL twice. He came up as a standup comedian, and was one of the bigger movie stars in the 80s and early 90s. He was BATMAN. He was multiple Michael Keaton’s in Multiplicity. Hopefully Keaton can bring a similar energy to The Rock and SNL can keep on rolling, but that’s doubtful. Keaton is more of a composed type of comedic actor, which I know the writing staff is aware of and hopefully they can create some fun sketches that play on his strengths. His promo’s call back pretty much everything he’s ever done, including the aforementioned Batman and Multiplicity movies. Will we get a Birdman sketch? I think so!

‘WWE Promo Shoot’, My Favorite Sketch From The Rock’s SNL

The Rock was fantastic as the host of SNL on Saturday, and there were numerous sketches that made me laugh out loud, but since it was WrestleMania weekend, I had to go with ‘WWE Promo Shoot’ for my favorite one. The premise is simple and something The Rock has done a thousand times: two wrestlers are gearing up to face each other in the ring, but they have to cut promos on each first to get the crowd ready for the match. Bobby Moynihan goes the more traditional route while The Rock’s character decides to get a little too personal. I loved this as both a fan of wrestling and SNL, and The Rock needs to get back there ASAP because his energy was off the charts. – Ryan

Two Of My Favorite Things Are Coming Together This Saturday As The Rock Is Hosting SNL

My favorite thing about Dwayne Johnson, also known as The Rock, is that his passion shines through in everything he does. There’s a reason he made it to the top of the WWE and there’s a reason he’s one of the most successful people in Hollywood: he works hard and puts everything he has in whatever he is doing at that moment. This Saturday he’ll be hosting SNL, maybe the only thing that could compare to my obsession with wrestling. The Rock hosting SNL, especially now as a Hollywood mega player, is going to be fantastic, and that it’s happening on the same weekend as WrestleMania is almost too much to handle. In his latest Instagram post promoting SNL, he runs into Leslie Jones on the streets of NY and I really hope these two do some type of inappropriate sketch together. The SNL writers always work well with celebrities who don’t take themselves seriously and have natural comedic timing, and The Rock fits both of those criteria. This weekend is going to be epic.
