‘Puppet Class’ Made a Wonderful Reapperance During Bill Hader’s Hosting Stint on SNL
SNL had only done one ‘Puppet Class’ sketch before duplicating it Saturday, but you can’t deny that’s hilarious. Hader’s Anthony Coleman character is perfect, as are his war recollections through the eyes of Siamese puppet. The audience loves the sketch. I love the sketch. Howard Stern loves the sketch. It combines everything that we miss about Hader: his ability to transform into a character and his unique ability to make every line he’s given funny. I didn’t expect another ‘Puppet Class’ sketch, but I’m glad they fit it in. Also, if you haven’t seen this episode, check it out. It’s the best one they’ve done in a number of years.

Trailer Alert! The Fault In Our Stars 2: The Ebola In Our Everything
Hopefully you read the title to this post and realized this movie is in fact not real, which is a shame. I’d pay good money to see Taran Killam and Sarah Silverman play lovesick (and real sick) teenagers. When the skit started I wasn’t sure where they were going with this, but when Silverman dropped the “I have Ebola line” it was all worth it. People with Ebola need loving too.

Sarah Silverman’s SNL Promos Will Make You Wish It Was Saturday Night For Various Reasons
Chris Pratt did a charmingly stellar job as host of the season premiere, and the cast looked a lot more comfortable than they did last year. Last week wasn’t a perfect episode, but I’m not sure that’s what SNL is going for. I like how Beck Bennett and Kyle Mooney’s odd sketch got on the air, because if there’s thing the current cast has going for it, it’s comic diversity. Hopefully they got their NFL satire out of their system, as there are so many more news stories they can run with. Having former cast member and first time host Sarah Silverman helming the show this week can only help. Let the weirdness begin!

My Heart Gently Weeps: Cecily Strong is Out as Weekend Update Co-Host
NOOO – Cecily Strong is out as Colin Jost’s co-host on Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update and Michael Che is reportedly in. According to the New York Times, the show’s shakeups haven’t ended as the 40th season approaches, as Lorne Michaels personally selected Che to replace Strong because of the 31-year old comedian’s strong relationship with Jost behind-the-scenes. The decision comes as the result of several weeks of testing different combinations of the show’s comedians and personalities, and Michaels ultimately decided that Jost and Che were best for Weekend Update moving forward.
I don’t agree, SNL. I DO NOT AGREE. Colin Jost never fit in towards the end of last season, and Cecily Strong carried that segment on her goddamn back. The only silver lining is that Cecily can be in more sketches, including guest characters on Weekend Update (girl you don’t want to talk to at a party, for one). The worst part about this is that Jost comes off as someone who takes forever to develop chemistry with a co-host. The report claims he and Strong’s replacement, Michael Che, are good friends backstage, but who knows how that’ll translate to live TV. They better load up with Drunk Uncle, Bruce Chandling and any Kate McKinnon character just in case this doesn’t work out. Until then, hit the music.

And Then There Were Fewer: John Milhiser, Nasam Pedrad & Noel Wells Are Also Leaving SNL
SNL – Three more cast members of “Saturday Night Live” will not return to the late-night sketch-comedy show’s 40th season this fall.
The Hollywood Reporter said Tuesday that featured players Noël Wells, 27, and John Milhiser, 32, did not have their contracts renewed.
The news comes a day after another featured player, Brooks Wheelan, 27, tweeted, “Had a blast and loved every second of it. I’m totally honored to be able to make this next joke . . . FIRED FROM NEW YORK IT’S SATURDAY NIGHT!”
In December, Fox had announced that cast member Nasim Pedrad, 32, had joined the network’s upcoming sitcom “Mulaney.”
NBC did not comment on the report.
Well at least I can’t say I didn’t see it coming. Of all the cast members last year, Wheelan, Milhiser and Wells had the least amount of impact/screen time, so it definitely makes sense that they wouldn’t be back this year. Nasim Pedrad is kind of a kick to the balls, especially because she did such a great Kim Kardashian impression, and making fun of Kim Kardashian will never, ever get old. I also loved her recurring characters Heshy and Shallon, so her leaving for “Mulaney” definitely sucks. At least we’ll always have the memories.

Fired From New York, It’s Saturday Night Live: Farewell Brooks Wheelan
Had a blast and loved every second of it. I’m totally honored to be able to make this next joke… FIRED FROM NEW YORK IT’S SATURDAY NIGHT!
— Brooks Wheelan (@brookswheelan) July 14, 2014
The first of what I’m assuming many pegs to fall during SNL’s offseason is Brooks Wheelan. He was the most logical choice to go since he was in very few sketches which really contributed to him not leaving much of an impression on the SNL audience. SNL has always been better with a smaller cast, as it gives the featured players more of a chance to shine, so Brooks and the rest of the roster cuts should be viewed as a positive. Plus, it’s never bad for an aspiring comedian or comedy actor to have a year of SNL under his/her belt. At least he’ll always have his favorite moments:

The 2014 Emmy Nominations Are In & All I Have To Say is Give Me Kate McKinnon Or Give Me Death
For the second year in a row, a member of SNL has been nominated for an Emmy award (Bill Hader last year). Kate is definitely up against some strong competition:
Mayim Bialik, The Big Bang Theory
Julie Bowen, Modern Family
Allison Janney, Mom
Kate Mulgrew, Orange Is the New Black
Kate McKinnon, Saturday Night Live
Anna Chlumsky, Veep
But I’m an SNL FTW kind of guy and there isn’t a scenario I can picture that doesn’t have her giving an acceptance speech.
All the other nominees are great at portraying their respective characters, but Kate McKinnon is great at portraying ALL her characters. Give her the win. If for no other reason but because Seth Meyers supports her.
So very happy for Kate McKinnon and her Emmy nomination today. She is a natural born killer!
