This Is Not A Rick Roll – Rick Astley Is Releasing His Own Beer Tomorrow

The musician and 80’s pop legend Rick Astley has brewed his own beer with the Danish microbrewery Mikkeller. The beer will be launched April 13th in London in connection with Astley’s sold out concert at Royal Albert Hall.

The whole project started with a rumor that Rick Astley lived in Amager, Copenhagen.

“When I heard the news, I immediately thought we should brew a beer with him,” explains the brewer and founder of Mikkeller, Mikkel Borg Bjergsø, who as a pre-teen had posters of Rick Astley hanging on his wall in his childhood home in Nivå and hits such as ’Never Gonna Give You Up’ and ’Whenever You Need Somebody’ on repeat in the walkman.

“I was a huge fan!,” he says. – Beer Advocate

If you were to tell me that Rick Astley was about to release his own beer I would call you a liar and then go watch the music video for ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ a couple hundred times. While I’m probably still going to watch the video all day, it turns out that Rick Astley has indeed brewed his own beer, and thanks to help from the Danish microbrewery Mikkeller, ‘Astley’s Northern Hop’ is coming to dance all over your palate starting tomorrow. If you’re reading this and live in the US or Canada, you’re probably out of luck, as the Mikkeller distribution website currently has a disclaimer advising that they cannot ship alcohol to the US or Canada (thanks Trump). If you live in the UK, which is Rick Astley central, then you’ll have a much easier time getting your hands on some Northern Hop. Even if I never drink this beer, I know eight things are true about it: it’s never gonna give you up, let you down, run around and desert you. It’s also never going to make you cry, say goodbye, tell a lie or hurt you.
