WrestleMania season is always the best time of the year for the WWE, and it seems to be extending with each passing year. The reason for that is the aura that now surrounds the Raw after WrestleMania, a show that usually ends up being the best Raw of the year. On previous Raw after Mania’s, we’ve seen the return of Brock Lesnar, the debut of Goldberg, Dolph Ziggler cashing in his MITB briefcase and countless other wonderful moments. Thankfully, last night was no different.
The Hardy Boyz (who returned at WrestleMania and won the Raw Tag Team Titles} had their first successful title defense against Gallows and Anderson. Cesaro & Sheamus beat Enzo & Cass later in the show, and are now the #1 contenders for those titles. Emma FINALLY debuted, and will add some much needed depth to the Raw Women’s Division. Braun Strowman stepped up as the first challenger to Brock Lesnar’s Universal Title, the belt he won off of Goldberg at WrestleMania. Roman Reigns opened the show in the most badass way possible, letting the crowd chant themselves to death before calmly announcing that this is his yard show, then dropping the microphone and walking out. ALL of those things happened in a 3 hour timeframe, plus three enormous debuts.
Kurt Angle as the new GM of Raw, the return of Finn Balor and the promotion of The Revival to the main roster are three of the best moves the WWE could have made. Balor’s return was obviously inevitable, but bringing him back and putting him against Joe and Owens was perfect booking, as those were two of his main rivals in NXT. Angle being named the GM makes perfect sense, and he already proved how much fun it’s going to be watching him interact with a new generation of stars during a few of his backstage segments last night. The best part: if he’s able to pass the WWE physicals, we could see him in the ring too, which is always a great option to have for an authority figure.
While they’re not as well known as Angle or Balor, The Revival showing up on Raw was the biggest addition from last night. Dash and Dawson have revitalized the Tag Team Division in NXT, making it easily the best part of almost every show. Adding them and the Hardy’s to the Tag Division is huge, and I have to imagine that the current crop of teams (New Day, Cesaro/Sheamus, Enzo/Cass) will all be better just by sharing the ring with The Revival. WWE is in prime position for a great stretch, and I can’t wait to see how it all plays out.
