Dirk Nowitzki Moved Into 9th Place On the NBA’s All-Time Scoring List Last Night

Dirk Nowitzki has scored more points than any other player born outside the United States. That is a beautiful thing. My opinion is supremely biased when it comes to Dirk, because he’s my favorite player, but he’s now 9th on the NBA’s All-Time Scoring List and he’ll be in 7th by the end of this season. He passed Hakeem Olajuwon last night, and will pass Elvin Hayes and Moses Malone by the end of the season. When you start steam rolling past hall of famers, it’s impressive no matter who you root for. Dirk is averaging 21 points a game this year, and with the additions of Monta Ellis last year and Chandler Parsons this year, his scoring load has been lightened and he’s getting a ton more open shots. If he stays healthy and the Mavs stay competitive, there’s no reason why he won’t pass Shaq (he needs 1600 points or so) and finish his career 6th on the All-Time Scoring List. Not bad for a lanky guy with bad ankles who can’t play defense.
