Music Monday – Stay Alive

Last night I watched “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” for the first time. After the movie was over one of the things that really stuck with me, beside the awesome storyline, was the soundtrack. Really just a phenomenal soundtrack throughout the whole thing. If you get a chance, watch this movie, even if it is just to discover some new music.

Music Monday: Johnny Cash – In My Life (Beatles Cover)

A cool spin on the Beatles classic. Also proof that Johnny Cash can do everything.

Weird Al Yankovic Is Having Himself a Week – Here’s ‘Tacky’ From Conan

I guess it goes without saying that a guy who makes parody songs/videos goes about promoting his new album differently, but Weird Al is kind of a sneaky genius here. Why not utilize all the tools at your disposal to promote something? He’s in the middle of an eight day streak where he releases a new music video every day on a different website. He’s also been on Fox News, and last night he appeared on Conan to do a live version of ‘Tacky’, his spoof of Pharrell’s ‘Happy’. Say what you want about the guy, but he’s a performer. Also, doing this in one take is extremely impressive. Stay weird, Al.

Happy Birthday to The Hoff, David Hasselhoff

A lot of people would put the drunk cheeseburger video on here to make fun of The Hoff, but not me. I mean who hasn’t eaten a cheeseburger off the floor in a drunken stupor before? I’ve done worse things. Horrible, unexplainable things. Anyway, today is the The Hoff’s birthday, so today we celebrate. How many German girls do you think he’s getting with tonight? I’m put the over/under at 73.

Apparenlty Paris Hilton Makes Music Now

I vaguely remember reading something a while back about Paris Hilton being a DJ, which I’m hoping infuriated DJ’s around the world. I didn’t read the article because people like her and Kim K are always doing something to keep their names in the headlines. But apparently Paris Hilton is also a singer now, a singer with her own VEVO page, and her new song has almost 500,000 views in one day. I know some of those views are from girls who “can’t even” but still that’s a lot of views. Is America OK with Paris Hilton now? Are we so consumed with Kim K and Kanye that we just let this slide? Well not on my watch! Her video is basically her in an extreme amount of makeup swinging on a flower swing and riding a rainbow while singing to the moon. It’s like a gentle, comforting acid trip. And I hate it. Hate, hate, hate…

Thanks as always to Luna for the tip.

Mom’s Spaghetti Remix – Eminem

When Bill Paxton created the internet this is EXACTLY what he though it would be used for.

Here’s the Best Version of ‘Fancy’ You’ll Ever Hear Courtesy of Jimmy Fallon, Crosby, Stills & Nash

I think my new favorite thing is having music legends come on The Tonight Show and sing newer pop songs. Jimmy Fallon and Bruce Springsteen did it with ‘Whip My Hair’ and now he brought in the legendary trio of Crosby, Still & Nash for ‘Fancy’. If late night TV ever fails Jimmy Fallon, he could absolutely go on the road as a Neil Young impersonator. Uncanny.

P.S. David Crosby is still the craziest looking person in the world.

In Case You Needed Another Reason to Love Paul McCartney, Here He Is Helping A Couple Propose Onstage

When I’m 64During his second encore, he brought a couple from Rochester onstage after the woman held up a sign saying her boyfriend wouldn’t marry her until he met McCartney. After the man led the audience in a verse of “When I’m 64” to honor his age, he went to his knees and successfully proposed.

“And he booked us for the wedding,” McCartney joked.

Paul McCartney being the coolest guy in the room once again. Just a sweetheart move bringing this couple on stage so the guy could propose. Also, this guy is kind of demanding. I feel like refusing to marry someone until you meet Paul McCartney is a very ballsy move. It’s not like your saying I won’t marry you until you buy me a new pair of shoes, or until make me that chicken parm dinner I like. Paul McCartney seems like a busy man. Might be doing a few concerts here and there. Lives in an entirely different country. But somehow this guy pulled it off, mostly due to Paul McCartney being one of the coolest people in the entire world. Kudos to the happy couple.
