Saoirse Ronan, James Franco & Kevin Hart To Host December SNL Eps.
SNL has had an interesting start to it’s 43rd season. They’re still stuck in Trump mode (although Alec Baldwin has not appeared on the last two shows) and they’ve utilized a lot of first time hosts. That trend will continue Saturday when Saoirse Ronan makes her SNL debut, but 2017 will end with a few familiar faces. Franco has hosted three times while Hart has hosted twice, and they’re more household names than the Haddish’s and Ronan’s of the world. With everything happening in Hollywood, having fresh faces host is probably a smart move, but I do enjoy when some old favorites return.
Kevin Hart had one of my favorite monologues of season 41 and Franco is always down to get weird, which usually makes the best hosts. The other thing to look for this weekend and moving forward is how SNL responds to the Al Franken sexual misconducts news. Franken is a former writer and cast member, so I’d expect Jost and Che to have something to say about him during Weekend Update.
There’s just so much to love here. First off, Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart are fantastic lip syncers. We already knew Jimmy Fallon could do it, but Will and Kevin just dominated here. Add lip syncing to the list of things that they’re better than 90% of the worlds population at. As good as Kevin Hart and Jimmy Fallon are, Will Ferrell is just amazing. He doesn’t just lip sync, he performs. His Beyoncé rendition of ‘Drunk in Love’ was hauntingly wonderful and I’ll probably never get those images out of my head. The surprises were also great, like Chrissy Teigen’s cry face floating around during Kevin Hart’s ‘All of Me’ cover and Drew Barrymore coming out to reenact the Dirty Dancing dance scene during Jimmy Fallon’s cover of ‘I’ve Had The Time Of My Life’. Also Kevin Hart’s atomic bomb shirt is AWESOME. A+ times a million.
Kevin Hart hosted SNL for the second time on Saturday night, and overall it was a very strong episode. Hart brings a lot to energy to everything he does, which makes an OK sketch good and a good sketch great. After a really funny cold open featuring Kenan as Martin Luther King Jr., Hart took the stage and delivered easily the best monologue of the season. Stand up comedians who host SNL should always do a stand up set as their monologue, as it’s worked for Louis CK, Chris Rock and now Hart. He rambles a bit, but his energy, facial expressions and body language are all great. I won’t spoil it for you, but if I were his son, I’d think twice about taking out the garbage ever again.
I hope whoever named this movie did it ironically, because you can’t name something ‘Get Hard’ and have it not be a porno. That just makes no sense. Anyway, Will Ferrell is a rich white man and Kevin Hart is a middle class black man (?) who finds Will Ferrell’s keys one day. Then Will Ferrell gets sentenced to 10 years in prison for fraud, and while he’s waiting to be sent there, he asks the only black person he knows to teach him what it’s like in prison. This movie is not racist at all. The trailer doesn’t look particularly funny, but I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt because it has Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart in it. Still kind of upset it isn’t a porno, though.
I love the movie Hitch. It has all the ingredients of a great movie: Will Smith, Kevin James, Eva Mendes, FRIENDSHIPS. The Wedding Ringer is basically Hitch but you sub out trying to find a girlfriend and you sub in trying to find a best man. You also sub in Josh Gad and Kevin Hart and the always funny movie trope of a rag tag band of misfits that almost always equals hilarity (Dodgeball, Bridesmaids). I will see this movie, and I will laugh. At this point, Kevin Hart could sell a ketchup popsicle to a woman in white gloves. The guy can’t miss.
This is some laugh out loud funny shit here. Between Conan and Kimmel I don’t know who does the better filmed bits.
