Game Of Thrones Confirmed The Rightful Heir To The Iron Throne In The Season 7 Finale ‘The Dragon & The Wolf’

Photo: TIME

*Spoilers below. Although if you haven’t watched the season 7 finale yet, you probably shouldn’t’ even be on the internet.

If you’ve read any of George R.R. Martin’s books (which I haven’t, but I’m surrounded by friends who have so I get all the juicy info) then you’ve known for awhile that Jon Snow is a Targaryen. What we didn’t know was that he was THE Targaryen, and is the rightful heir to the Iron Throne as Rhaegar Targaryen’s oldest male son. Gilly alluded to it a few episodes back when she and Sam were getting ready to leave the Citadel, but we got confirmation last night as Sam told Bran about the transcript he translated and 3 eyed raven Bran was able to go back in time and visually confirm it. The switch from the books is that Jon Snow is Aegon Targaryen in the show while Aegon was Jon’s older brother in the books (at least as far as Mr. Martin has written them). In the books, Aegon was supposedly murdered by The Mountain, but seeing as Aegon is Jon Snow in the show, that’s obviously not possible. It’s an enormous revelation, and Game of Thrones is a special brand of deranged for confirming that Jon Snow is a Targaryen in a voiceover while we watch Jon and Daenerys make incest love.

There was A LOT more that happened in the finale, and we’ll be talking about later in the week during our TV Club podcast. We’ll miss you Game of Thrones. Please come back soon.

Hot Pie From Game of Thrones Created His Own Online Bakery & The Name Is Fantastic

Game Of Thrones‘ own Hot Pie opened his own bakery to celebrate the return of the HBO show. Last Monday (July 17), actor Ben Hawkey, who plays the character, sold snacks to hungry fans via Deliveroo. The bakery, called You Know Nothing Jon Dough, sold Direwolf bread based on the one Hot Pie baked for Arya Stark in the series. Hawkey’s recipe saw the loaves being made out of wholewheat cornbread and orange zest, as Digital Spy reports. Instructions suggest they are best served slightly warm with soft butter. – NME

I say this with all sincerity: opening a bakery called You Know Nothing Jon Dough is one of the best things I’ve ever heard. I’m a fan of witty play on words, but Ben Hawkey a.k.a. Hot Pie is a literary genius for coming up with this. On top of the incredible name, the Direwolf bread actually sounds delicious. Whole wheat cornbread and orange zest, served slightly warm with soft butter? Sign me the hell up. I’d fight The Mountain in a death duel for some of that sweet Direwolf bread. Now all I want is a subplot of Hot Pie working at a bakery with a huge ‘You Know Nothing Jon Dough’ sign out front that all the characters can stop into as they venture about the Seven Kingdoms.

Games Of Thrones Season 7 Is Unsurprisingly Now The Most Watched Premiere In HBO History

The “Game of Thrones” Season 7 premiere broke ratings records on HBO Sunday night.

The episode drew 16.1 million total viewers, including 10.1 million who watched on the linear channel and the rest coming from DVR and streaming. That represents an incredible 50% increase from last year’s premiere, when the show premiered in the spring when TV viewership is typically higher than the summer. That also makes the episode the most-watched season premiere for any HBO series to date. The Season 7 premiere also saw the highest number of concurrent viewers across the streaming services HBO Go and HBO Now. – Variety

It looks like the decision to push Game of Thrones into a summer release was a smart move, as the show absolutely destroyed HBO ratings records last night. The best part? GOT seems to be reaching a creative highpoint as well, as the last three episodes have been some of the best offerings to date. Any time you can increase your viewership by 50% from one season to the next, you know you’re doing something right. Since it’s pretty much the only show on for July and August, I have to imagine this ratings trend will continue throughout the season.
