Your Average WWE Hell in a Cell Predictions

Hell in a Cell is Sunday in Dallas. You can watch it on the WWE Network for a previously agreed upon undisclosed sum of money. Let’s get to the predictions.

Paige vs. AJ Lee (C) – WWE Divas Championship Match

if an AJ match is on the card, this GIF is being used. DEAL WITH IT

I was really excited for this feud when it first started, because it matched up two evenly athletic and skilled performers with a basic storyline: they each want to be champion. Over the past few weeks (and maybe longer) it’s developed into a weird three way feud with Alicia Fox that culminated in a terrible match on Raw where Paige hit Alicia Fox then distracted AJ to help Fox win. I still think they’ll have a good match Sunday, but I don’t’ think it’s too much to ask to have a decent build so the viewers are already invested in both wrestlers before the match starts.

Winner: this could go either way, because neither has any momentum. I’m picking Paige to dethrone the champ mostly because I love her finisher.

Nikki Bella vs. Brie Bella – Loser has to be the winner’s assistant for a month

Remembering better times

This match might be a stinker. I hope it’s not, but I also don’t have a ton of faith in the Bella Twins carrying a match that only involves the Bella Twins. Nikki looked great at Night of Champions, but I have to imagine some of that had to do with sharing the ring with AJ and Paige. If there’s one indicator of how poorly this feud has been built up, it has to be the fact that no one knew of this stipulation until WWE formally announced it.

Winner: Nikki Bella. John Cena never loses.

Big Show vs. Rusev – Grudge Match

You were warned, Big Show. Rusev is becoming one of my favorite characters, and he’s doing it in the best way possible. He is a heel in every sense of the word, but he’s so good at it, that it’s becoming tough to root against him. You still have the USA/Russia aspect in all his feuds, so for now he’ll never be cheered, but people will pay to see him get beat up. He’s also making logical and important progressions. When he was first introduced we never heard from him. His intentions were solely translated through Lana. Then he would speak briefly, but only in Russian. Now, he’s mixing in the Russian with what seems like the only English words he knows: groin, kill, crush you. It’s fantastic. His in ring style has progressed, too. He’s utilizing dropkicks more than ever, and his super kick is a great setup for The Accolade. The Big Show, on the other hand, will have to die for his country.

Winner: Rusev. He gets a big win over a giant, and not only does he continue to prove himself to be a great talent, but no one questions if he’s a racist after only beating the black wrestlers.

Sheamus (C) vs. The Miz – US Championship Match

I have a fever, and the only prescription is more DAMIEN MIZDOW. It’s impossible not to love what Damien Sandow is doing with what was a throwaway character. Miz is doing some of the best weasel heel work of his career, but he looks like an amateur compared to Sandow. It’s only of matter of time before WWE realizes what they have in Sandow and give him his Alex Riley on a larger scale moment with The Miz. Add in the fact that no one is more stale and in need of a heel turn right now than Sheamus, and I think you have the perfect recipe for a title change.

Winner: The Miz, with the help of Mizdow, which eventually leads to a Mizdow/Miz US title feud that I’m already extremely excited about.

Gold/Stardust vs. The Uso’s – Tag Team Championship Match

I Really Don't Care

This should not be my reaction when Cody Rhodes and Goldust are in the same match together. Look what you’ve done to me, WWE! WWE has so much talent, yet they insist on giving us the same feuds over and over and over again. I was sick of the Uso’s after the Wyatt’s feud, which they definitely should have lost. I’m doubly sick of them now that they finally lost their tag titles yet continue to get title shots. If you like the Uso’s and think I’m crazy, watch the match Sunday and count how many moves they don’t do that include them A. slapping their leg for a kick or B. jumping over the top rope. It’s the same song and dance every time, and nowadays that’s not going to get it done. Meanwhile, Gold and Stardust are on another level with their character work. A fresh feud for these two would blow people away.

Winner: Gold/Stardust. Which leads to a feud with literally any other tag team. I’m not picky. Give me anyone.

Dolph Ziggler (C) vs. Cesaro – 2 out of 3 Falls Match for the IC Title

This is how one of the falls should end. Ziggler goes for his big DDT, and Cesaro says NOPE and uppercuts him to death and Neutralizes his lifeless body. This is the match I’m looking forward to the most for two reasons: I love both guys, and won’t be disappointed with the outcome either way. 2. Ziggler and Cesaro’s styles mesh perfectly. Cesaro is a monster and never has a bad match, but his best matches are against the guys who aren’t afraid to let him work a little stiff and really sell his moves. Did you see that uppercut he beat Ziggler with on Raw? That’s 50% Cesaro executing the move perfectly and 50% Ziggler selling like a badass. WWE hasn’t really built this match up that well, which goes for pretty much every match on the card, but there’s no doubt this will be the match of the night. I expect it to go all three falls…

Winner: Ziggler. As much as I love Cesaro, WWE still doesn’t know what to do with him. Why give him the IC title unless you plan on having him to do something with it?

Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins – Hell in a Cell

I like this feud a lot, even though Ambrose has gone a little bonkers lately, and not in a good way. Their previous matches have been great, and this should be no different. Another plus is that neither of these guys have been in a Hell in a Cell match, and with their creativity, they should develop some interesting spots. I believe this match will be a transitional match, as both guys should move on to a different feud. Rollins planted the seeds of his beef with Orton on Raw after he Curb Stomped him, and there’s only one reason for Dean Ambrose to move on from his feud with Rollins: because someone else gets in his way. Which leads me to…

Winner: Seth Rollins, with the help of Bray Wyatt. No, Wyatt will not align himself with The Authority of Rollins. He’s simply set his sites on Dean Ambrose. I think Wyatt comes back Sunday after weeks and weeks of video packages hyping his return, and he gets inside the cell a la Kane during the inaugural Cell match and destroys Ambrose. Has anyone else noticed Ambrose has become a little John Cena-eque lately? There’s been less vicious crazy Ambrose and more stupid crazy Ambrose, and that’s something the Bray Wyatt character does not agree with.  I hope that WWE reintroduces Wyatt into a main event feud, and not one centered around a mid card title. His character is too complicated and unique to have his actions justified only by wins and losses for a title. This should be a great match with an even greater ending.

John Cena vs. Randy Orton – Hell in a Cell – Winner is the #1 Contender For the World Title

image

All jokes aside, I would love for Randy Orton to win this match. As the wonderful people at With Spandex pointed out, if Orton wins, this sets up two equally great scenarios. Scenario 1 see’s Lesnar come back for Survivor Series and fight Orton in his hometown of St. Louis. Orton will clearly be the crowd favorite, and this match could be the start of a baby face turn for him. While he probably loses to Lesnar, at least it’s a fresh matchup for Brock, and they can easily have Orton outsmart Brock throughout the match and have both guys look strong by the end of the night. Scenario 2, which would be my favorite scenario, has Orton win but Brock doesn’t show up until the Rumble to defend his title. In the meantime, with Reigns and Bryan on the shelf, and Ambrose entangled in a Bray Wyatt feud, Orton becomes the baby face challenger to Lesnar by feuding with uber heel Seth Rollins. They have a series of great matches at Survivor Series and TLC, and Orton finally leaves The Authority and becomes an anti establishment good guy, which sets up the matchup of The Authority’s current champion versus their former face of the company. Tell me you wouldn’t watch Orton being the cool good guy who RKO’s people from OUTTA NOWHERE. I sure would. The opposite end of this spectrum? John Cena wins, and fights Brock Lesnar. Again.

Winner: Randall Keith Orton. Bet the house on it.

TNA Half Heartedly Called Out WWE Last Night After Fans Complained About the Main Event

Look at TNA. Promoting Samsung and taking a shot at the competition all in the same tweet! Was the main event of Night of Champions WWE’s greatest moment? It was not, but it advanced the storyline. WWE fans would have been mad no matter what happened last night, whether Cena won the title or Brock won clean again. The good thing about last night is that WWE can take the World Heavyweight title picture in many different directions. Cena could challenge Lesnar again at Hell in a Cell, Rollins could become the new #1 contender, Cena could feud with Rollins because he cost him his rematch, which leaves the door open for anyone to challenge Lesnar. It wasn’t the greatest main event in history, but WWE fans need to be a little more realistic with their expectations. It’s not 1999 anymore; The Rock and Stone Cold aren’t walking through those doors to light the world on fire. And I’ve got some news for you: if you didn’t like that main event, tune into TNA on Wednesday and let me know what you think, because if you thought last night was bad, TNA will undoubtedly take those expectations and slam them through the floor. Unless you love funeral parlor segments. Then TNA is the show for you.

Your Average WWE Night of Champions Predictions

WWE Night of Champions is this Sunday. You can watch it on the WWE Network for 999 pennies. Here are our predictions:

Divas Title Match: Paige (C) vs. Nikki Bella vs. AJ Lee

You really expect me to root against AJ? Nikki could win because of the Total Divas tie in, but this AJ/Paige feud really needs to start progressing. They’re both super talented, and a title change would give Paige an added edge instead of skipping around mimicking AJ every Monday night. Hopefully Brie costs Nikki the match allowing AJ to tap out Paige and I will just keep watching this GIF forever and ever.

United States Championship Match: Sheamus (C) vs. Cesaro

Loop_medium

Of all the matches on this card, this is the one that needs a “double switch”. Cesaro is a natural baby face, and Sheamus is a natural bad guy. Cesaro can go blow for blow with the big guys, and match the athleticism of the smaller guys. Plus that giant swing is awesome and it won’t come back until he’s done being a heel. Sheamus might have been pushed too hard too quickly, but he was 1 million times better as a heel. I don’t think a loss hurts either guy here, but the basis for a switch in both characters in necessary. I see Sheamus winning cheaply.

Intercontinental Championship Match: Dolph Ziggler (C) vs. Miz

image

Besides Cesaro, Ziggler is probably my favorite guy on the main roster right now. But after reading With Spandex’s predictions for this Sunday, I have to go with The Miz. How amazing would it be to have Miz show up on Raw Monday night with the IC title and Damien Mizdow with a toy title? That picture in my head gives me so much joy, that I’m actually rooting Miz to win now.  The Era of Awesomeness begins (again).

Tag Team Championship Match: The Uso’s (C) vs. Gold & Stardust

image

There are a lot of title matches on this card. It’s almost like it’s the…Night of Champions. Sorry about that. I’m personally growing tired of the Uso’s. Every match they have starts and ends the same way, and while they’re incredibly gifted athletes, it’s time for a heel tag team to own the belts. While I wanted it to be Harper and Rowan, I’ll settle for the bizarre brothers. They’ve finally gained some momentum now that they’ve turned to the dark side, and I’m excited to see what they can do as champions.

Randy Orton vs. Chris Jericho

Cowboy Bob Orton Randy Orton animated GIF

Give me back the Legend Killer. That is the only Randy Orton I am interested in. Slow, methodical, go over the same point two thousand times Randy Orton does nothing for the WWE. But Legend Killer Randy Orton? Legend Killer Randy Orton is motivated, focused and can have a great match with just about anyone. Maybe even tweak the character a little bit and have him go after the younger guys trying to take his spot. Just a sadistic, maniacal, gifted wrestler. Have him get rid of Jericho (since he’s leaving anyway) and then slowly stalk the new blood coming trying to come in and main event. That’s the Randy Orton I’m interested in watching.

Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins

image

It’s weird that they already had this match on Raw, especially since they ended it with Roman scoring a clean win. The general consensus on the internet is that Dean Ambrose will return and maim Seth Rollins. I can see that happening. What would the point of Roman beating Seth clean again be? And there’s no way Seth is beating Roman clean. I say have Ambrose attack Rollins during his entrance while Reigns continually cocks his fist in the ring un fazed by his surroundings.

WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match: Brock Lesnar (C) vs. John Cena

Brock Lesnar Powerbombs Spike Dudley forever

Brock SHOULD beat Cena decisively again. It doesn’t have to be a massacre like at Summerslam, but he absolutely needs to win clean. A cheap win keeps Cena in the title picture and gives us months worth of promo’s about how Brock had to cheat to win even though he already KILLED HIM AT SUMMERSLAM. I never thought I’d say this, but I don’t see any scenario in which Cena wins this match. Lesnar should be built to be unstoppable until you have someone who can stop him. And that “someone” should not be the guy he just murdered a month ago.

Brock Lesnar Delivered Another Powerhouse Promo on Last Night’s Raw

I guess that old story of Brock being above average on the microphone but being nervous in front of a live crowd is true, because he was awesome in another pre taped promo on Raw last night. They are using Lesnar perfectly, which is funny, because the way they used Cena on Raw last night was the opposite of perfect. Hey Bray Wyatt has some momentum after Summerslam right? Let’s have Cena KILL HIM. The only payoff to this angle has to be Brock just dominating Cena again, and Cena being away for awhile, because right now he is insufferable. The only bad thing about this promo is it included way less vomit, piss and blood.

At WWE Night of Champions, Brock Lesnar Will Defend His Title Against…John Cena :(

image

Well this is creative. You have a guy beat the Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania then maul John Cena at Summerslam to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in subsequent matches, basically building him up like no other villain before, and then you make his next match against John Cena again. Talk about a let down. If the reports of Lesnar disappearing for a few months after NOC are true, then making his first title defense be against John Cena is a huge mistake. Why not use this perfect scenario to build a future superstar? Whoever Lesnar fights next he should beat, but at this point any wrestler on the roster who gives Lesnar a competitive title match would receive an enormous boost. Lesnar beating Cena again proves nothing. Cena wasn’t hurt at Summerslam. He got beaten by an alpha male. It’s easy to bash on the WWE, but how can you not after they put on such a great pay per view and then resort back to the same old storytelling just two days later. My only hope is that HHH announced this on Main Event, so maybe in the coming weeks Cena will defer his shot to someone else, or maybe he accepts and wins the title and I set myself on fire.

Brock Lesnar Basically Murdered John Cena Last Night at Summerslam to Become the New WWE World Heavyweight Champion

image

This shirt ended up being incredibly accurate

If you missed Summerslam last night, you missed one hell of a pay per view, a pay per view headlined by a WWE title match between John Cena and Brock Lesnar. If I had to describe this match in one word it would be uneasy. It was not easy to watch Cena literally get the living shit beat out of him, no matter how much satisfaction it gave some fans. Cena’s full move set in this match were a bunch of punches, one attitude adjustment and one STF. That’s it. He got a two count on Lesnar after the AA, and the STF lasted all of 20 seconds until Lesnar turned him over, pummeled Cena in the head and body, picked him up, F-5’d him and won the title. It was a complete demolition. The question now is who’s next? Whenever a monster heel comes on the scene, Cena Superman’s up and beats him. But now? Not even John Cena can stop Brock Lesnar. The easy guess is Roman Reigns, who defeated Randy Orton last night, but my money is on Cesaro. He’s a former Paul Heyman guy, and if you want to develop a strong baby face, bring in someone with supernatural power who can knock Brock around a little bit. I’m not saying they should give Cesaro the belt, but what’s the damage in making him look really good against Lesnar? Keep building up Reigns in the process, so when he does come after Lesnar, he’s a monster in his own right. No matter which direction they go, the landscape of the WWE has changed for the better after last night.

Brock Lesnar Does Not Give a Fuck About You In This Awesome Lesnar/Cena Promo Video From Last Night’s Raw

Last night’s Raw was great, if you like constant WWE Network plugs and 45 second Ziggler/Cesaro matches. Just like any other Raw though, it did have it’s highlights, and one of the bigger highlights was the John Cena/Brock Lesnar rivalry video that WWE is going to use to hype their main event title match at Summerslam. Lesnar doesn’t get to talk often, and for good reason: he has arguably the greatest heel mouth piece in wrestling history. But when he does get to talk, it’s usually a non scripted berating of his opponent and it’s glorious. Lesnar’s WWE deal is unlike any other deal in WWE history, and that’s because there has never been, and probably never will be, anyone like him. He’s a bad guy in every sense of the word, but when he gets in the ring and does his thing it’s impossible not to respect him. Also, Brock Lesnar does not give a fuck about you. Comforting.

John Cena Cannot Be Denied. Not Even By You

Final-SS-Cena-1

Last night was WWE’s Survivor Series PPV. The event, unofficially billed as one of WWE’s “Big 4 Four” (Summer Slam, Wrestlemania, The Royal Rumble, and Survivor Series), was quite the show, even though Orton vs Big Show left me wanting more out of the topped billed fight (But that’s for another blog titled “Don’t put Big Show in Main Events”)… I digress. The story and best part of last nights PPV was Cena vs. Del Rio for the Heavy Weight Title. Yes, the Wyatts vs. Bryan and Punk was awesome, but right now I would like to talk Cena with y’all.

SS13_Photo_154

First off, nobody, and I mean NOBODY gets a crowd reaction like John Cena. Good or bad, there is no other visceral reaction like that in professional wrestling. Put Cena in a match, the crowd will go nuts for the guy. “Cena Sucks!” “Lets Go Cena!” echo throughout stadiums all over the world. The beginning of his theme music can be like a well placed hand grenade. Send him out and watch the place explode.

SS13_Photo_171

I could really talk about the “Cena-effect” (Copyright Matt Vieira) for hours so i’ll move on. The other thing that sets Cena apart from other wrestlers on the WWE roster is his caliber of matches. Say what you want about the guy, but he knows his way around the squared circle and how to put guys over. Case in point, Money in the Bank circa 2011 Jonh Cena vs. CM Punk for the WWE Title.

CM-Punk-vs-John-Cena-Money-in-the-Bank-WWE-Money-in-the-Bank-2011-PPV-Watch-Now-1332190

One of my favorite matches of the last 10 years, and the moment Punk became the man he is today. Why? Because of the man across from him, John Cena. A great series of Promos and the eventual fight will go down in history as some of the best programming the wrestling world has ever seen.

Gone, the days of the “five moves of doom”. Cena’s repertoire of moves has grown exponentially in the last year, and last night it showed. Cena is the peoples champ, the most popular guy in the industry, and, despite Orton’s title, the face of the WWE. John Cena is what’s good for business.
