JESUS – The recent catch of an enormous bullfrog in a remote Vancouver Island pond has fueled concern that the voracious amphibians are spreading unchecked across the British Columbia island’s landscape.
Russ Schut, who was fishing in tiny Sproat Lake with a worm and bobber, hauled in the 2-foot-long American bullfrog and released it—after posing for a photograph—without knowing that it belonged to an invasive species that threatens native critters.
Because they’re not native to the Canadian southwest and have few natural predators, such as alligators, water snakes, and kingfishers in their native American southeast, some of the bullfrogs are growing to abnormally large sizes.
(American bullfrogs are the largest North American frogs and typically grow to about 7 inches, and weigh up to 1.5 pounds.)
Holy moly that’s a gigantic frog. Frogs aren’t usually the first thing that come to my mind when I think of animals that scare the shit out of me, but this picture changes everything. I wasn’t aware frogs got this big and frankly I’m kind of upset I saw this picture. I never thought of frogs as cute animals, but they just kind of existed without much thought. Now I have no choice to classify them as my natural born enemy. In hindsight, I should have saw this coming. You never trust anything that survives solely on flies. That’s day one shit right there.

The day after award shows are always great. We got to see Miley perform with a giant virtual kitten. R. Kelly continues to be the man, and 2 Chainz wore this fantastic shirt. It’s like a fashion rainbow. A+ choice.
Nothing screams “I’ve lost my mind” like having a giant virtual kitten staring everyone in the face during your performance on an awards show. Between the bleached eyebrows and the humongous virtual kitten, it’s clear that Miley is teetering on the brink of insanity. I’m half expecting her to perform a ritualistic sacrifice at her next show. It could happen.
I don’t know if it’s because Jon Stewart’s wearing it. I don’t know if it’s because there’s an American flag in the background. I don’t know if it’s because today is the 50th anniversary of JFK’s assassination and I’m feeling emotional. All I know is once I laid my eyes on this sweatshirt I knew it had to be mine. I can’t stop, won’t stop until I find it. And then I’ll wear it every day for the rest of my life. Hit the music.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, David O. Russell’s newest feature film, American Hustle, will headline and close out the Dubai Film Festival, which runs from December 6th-14th.
DIFF artistic director Masoud Amralla Al Ali said: “We are thrilled to bring David O. Russell’s follow-up to his Oscar-winning films The Fighter and Silver Linings Playbook to DIFF audiences this year. With one of the most exciting filmmakers working today at the helm, an outstanding cast and compelling story, this is a film that is set to blow audiences away and end the 10th DIFF on a high note.”
Hustle has had serious Oscar buzz surrounding it for quite some time, and with good reason. O. Russell stockpiled an incredible cast, and not only are they talented, but most of the cast have worked with the director before. Amy Adams and Christian Bale starred in The Fighter, while Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence were the two leads in Silver Linings Playbook. Add in the supporting actors (Renner, Louis C.K. and De Niro) and it’s easy to see why critics and fans are eager for the premiere. If the film is anything like O. Russell’s last two films, the honor of closing the Dubai Film Festival may be the first in a long line of deserving awards.
