Trailer Alert – Bright
Getting Will (we are on a first name basis…he just doesn’t know it) back in the role of one half of a buddy cop team is a great thing. It’s his bread and butter. So, while I wait for Bad Boys 3, this will have to do. The trailer certainly does a good job of getting my interested–Honestly, it had me at that scary fucking fairy trying to get in the bird feeder. Love weird shit like that. I think the main reason ‘Suicide Squad’ failed (to a degree) was because Will Smith needs to be in a lead role. Him as Deadshot was awesome, but his celebrity threw off the balance of the film. Him back in a leading role is what’s best for business and Netflix gets that.

Trailer(?) Alert – Pacific Rim 2: Uprising
This isn’t a trailer in the typical sense–it actually plays more like a recruitment video. If you remember back to the media spots for Pacific Rim, they did a lot of promotion like this. Instead of releasing dedicated movie trailers, they released immersive content to hype the story.
So, what does it tell us? For one, John Boyega’s accent is a mirror reflection of his film dad’s (Idris Elba). Secondly, we have a gaggle a new jaegers to admire throughout the tease and specifically in that last shot. I’m assuming this isn’t the only little promo they have ready to let loose. Look for some kind of Kaiju smear campaign to follow soon.

Trailer Alert – The Snowman
I’m a sucker for Fassbender. That being said, when I found out he was starring in The Snowman a year or so back, I went to Barnes & Noble and picked up the novel first. I liked the book so much, I’ve since read 3 others’ in author Jo Nesbo’s Harry Hole crime novels. I have been drooling for this trailer for months now and let me tell you, it does not disappoint. The music for the trailer is perfect, the filming locations look beautiful and absolutely nothing is given away. In the simple words of Magneto, “perfection.” The cast includes Michael Fassbender as Detective Harry Hole, Rebecca Ferguson and JK Simmons to name a few. Combined with Director Tomas Alfredson known state side for his work on Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, we’re in for an edge of your seat serial murder mystery thriller. I’d like to say I won’t watch another trailer for this flick because I’m beyond hyped for it and this was all I needed to see, but then again, I can’t control myself. If anyone needs me, I’ll be watching this trailer on repeat for the rest of the day.

Trailer Alert: A Wrinkle In Time
There are many things that I’m a sucker for when it comes to movie trailers, and A Wrinkle In Time hit the big ones. Chris Pine? Check. A sweet cover song? Show me a more sinister cover of Sweet Dreams than the one in the trailer and I’ll show you a liar. Visual effects that suck you in? Triple check. Plus, anytime you can develop a popular science fiction novel with a 9 figure movie budget, it’s always going to look wonderful. Now, will the story will be as wonderful as the visual aspects? We’ll have to wait and see, but the cast is stacked (the aforementioned Pine, Mindy Kaling, Reese Witherspoon, Zach Galifianakis, Michael Pena & Oprah no known last name). I think the key for this movie, and most science fictions adaptations, is to stay as far away from the reviews as possible. You’re going to have to expand your mind to begin with, so basing your opinion off of someone else’s reaction would be a big mistake. A Wrinkle In Time opens March 9th, 2018.

Trailer Alert – Goon: Last of the Enforcers
If you’ve never seen the original Goon starring Sean William Scott as Doug Glatt and Liev Schreiber as Ross ‘The Boss’ Rhea, you missed out on one of the most underrated sports comedies in recent memory. Movies about hockey goons (a player primarily on the team to fight) aren’t going to suddenly explode in popularity, but Goon had a surprising amount of heart to go along with a hysterical script from Jay Baruchel & Evan Goldberg. Goon: Last of the Enforcers picks up where Goon left off, as Doug Glatt is forced to contemplate his own professional mortality while watching a new tough guy take over the league. My recommendation would be to watch Goon, watch this trailer and then check out Last of the Enforcers in September.

Trailer Alert – The Deuce
Have you ever wanted to watch a TV show about the rise of porn in 1970s New York created by one of the mind behinds The Wire & starring James Franco? Well holy hell, may I present you The Deuce. When HBO and David Simon team up, something beautiful comes out of it (see The Wire, Generation Kill, Treme & Show Me A Hero) and if this trailer is a preview of what we can expect with The Deuce this fall, then I’m all in. By all accounts, New York City in the 70s and 80s was a fascinating and frightening time. I can’t imagine focusing on porn and prostitution from that era is going to shine a light on a lot of productive members of society, but it should be make for enthralling TV. The Deuce premiers September 10th.

Trailer Alert – Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor
I don’t think the Mayweather/McGregor fight will ever be able to live up to the build, but there’s no denying that both guys (and Showtime) know how to hype up a big time event. The match is a little over 7 weeks away, and Showtime is pulling out the big guns with it’s latest trailer. It’s really just Mayweather & McGregor talking about themselves mixed in with training and fight footage, but both guys are so confident and so skilled that it makes for an enthralling trailer. Whether you love or hate them, you can’t deny that millions of people will be watching this fight on August 26.

Trailer Alert – Final ‘Dunkirk’ Trailer
After almost a full year of trailers and teasers, this film needs no introduction. Christopher Nolan looks to have another hit on his hands. His next movie should be a biopic on King Midas, starring himself as King Midas. It’s just him walking around touching stuff… This is just the early stages of the idea, give me a break.
While I can’t tell you anything that Tom Hardy in a WWII fighter plane can’t, I will share this nice tie bit regarding Dunkirk: It’s being shown on select screens (Thanks Indiewire) in glorious 70mm. If you remember, back in 2015 Quentin Tarantino did the same thing with The Hateful Eight. To some degree, IMAX and 3D showings are just gimmicks, but 70mm screenings are the TRUTH. If it’s playing near you in 70mm, go see it in 70mm.
