Trailer Alert – Life
Daniel Espinosa, director of Safe House, takes us into outer space for a sci-fi horror/thriller that looks like the spiritual cousin of the Alien franchise.
I’m not sure i’m ready for Jake Gyllenhaal and Ryan Reynolds to share the big screen. How does the hype train not reach ludicrous speeds with a cast like that?! Give me all the space horror/thrillers, and give me them now.

Sidenote: Both writers are from Deadpool, and are currently working on Deadpool 2, so look for Ryan Reynolds to steal the show with one-liners.
Video Game Trailer Alert – Titanfall 2
Why do video games make the best damn promo videos? Like, I want this to be a movie starring Tom Hardy, yesterday. The music, the visuals, the feels. All great.
I’ve had this bad boy pre-ordered since July. Can’t wait for a single player Titanfall experience.

Trailer Alert – Man Down
I’m ALL about this Shia renaissance we’re going through. With American Honey getting rave reviews and this emotional war story in the chamber, Shia has been on the grind trying to get back to what he does best, acting. Sure, he will probably always be known as a loose cannon, but when he’s putting out work like this, and staying out of negative headlines, you can’t help but cheer him on.
Shia with all the feels in Man down.
Trailer Alert -Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
It’s no secret (among my group of friends) that I am a HUGE fan of the Disney Pirates movies. Maybe it’s because I loved the ride as a kid (and an adult). Maybe it’s because I love pirates and pirate themed things. Or maybe it’s because once, at a medieval fair, I traced my families origins back to a family in Portugal that were known pirates (I’m basically a pirate). Whatever the reason, I know that I am all kinds of jazzed up for the next installment of this storied franchise. and who did they get as the antagonist? Javier Bardem! If you were to ask me who I wanted to be a baddie pirate in the new movie, Javier would have bee top-10, easily. Right after Bill Paxton, Kurt Russel and Nick Cage.

Trailer Alert – Live By Night
GOD DAMMIT, Ben Affleck. You smooth S.O.B.. I will watch anything that Benny has his name attached to. Literally anything, but this? This is EXACTLY the type of movie I get excited for. Gangster movies are what I dream about at night, what I live for and probably the 2nd most well-represented genre in my movie collection (behind Sci-fi). I also like period pieces, so….make a gangster movie old-timey, have Ben Affleck write and direct it and I will probably be responsible for half its total box office. It’s a winning formula.

Trailer Alert/Movie Recommendation – My Blind Brother
The Douche, Ben Wyatt and Mona-Lisa Saperstein walk onto a movie set….my Parks and Recs peeps will get that. For everyone else, Nick Kroll, Adam Scott and Jenny Slate are starring in a movie together, and unsurprisingly, it’s hilarious. “But Matt, how could you know it’s hilarious if it comes out at the end of September? Are you a time traveler?” No, you peon. No, I am not. I actually saw it earlier this year at SXSW 2016. It was one of the movies I had on my “cut list”. I’ll explain. Basically, when I go to SXSW I make a list of all the movies I definitely want to see and the rest go on a “cut list”. These are movies I don’t mind missing if it means seeing something else or getting some dank Austin BBQ. I am SO glad that ‘My Blind Brother’ wasn’t one of the movies I cut for brisket (there were a few).
It follows Bill (Kroll) and his blind brother Robbie (Scott). Robbie is a hometown hero, crazy athlete and ladies man. These traits combine to cast one hell of a shadow on Bill, who couldn’t be more supportive of his brother even though he clearly gets cast aside. When a love triangle forms, with the addition of Rose (Slate), the boat starts to rock (Pun intended…see the movie and you’ll get it.).
