New Jam Alert – “American You” by Yelawolf
Yelawolf is back on my radar with this new jam off his new album “Love story”
Back when I first heard Yelawolf’s Trunk Muzik I thought this guy could be someone great. He had a very distinct voice and that white rapper chip on his shoulder that Eminem first had way back during the MMLP days. His music was dark, deep, and flowed well. Fast forward to 2015 and he has a new album, “Love Story”. I didn’t even know Yelawolf had a new album out until I watched Conan last night and Yela was on performing. He performed ‘American You’ and I was blown away. Same voice, different beat. Oh and did I mention that this song features the incomparable Travis Barker on drums?

Music Monday – Starlight
Went to an Italian/Portuguese wedding yesterday and got hooked on the authentic Portuguese jams they had playing. I couldn’t help but tap my feet to the beat. From this moment forward I am exclusively listening to Portuguese music. All other genres are inferior.

Music Monday – Van Halen
Over the weekend my brother and I were lucky enough to fall into possession of a large collection of vinyls. So we did what any level headed, music loving human would do; we had a record draft. Luckily for me, and for my brother, we both have VERY different tastes in music. I was able to score all the hair metal I could carry and he made away with a sizable stack of Doo-Wops and Motown. Here is one of my scores from the weekend.

Music Monday – Atmosphere
Got to see Atmosphere last night live from The House of Blues in Boston last night. Per usually they burned the place to the ground. I know artists like to hype up crowds by saying that “you are the best crowd we have had on our tour thus far”, but last night i really believed it. Atmosphere has always been one of those concerts that if the power went out in the building the fans could sing the rest of the set list from memory. It’s fun to sing along if you know the words and it’s also fun to get trashed and pretend you do, I’m a bit of a mix of the two.

Music Monday – Wreck of The Edmund Fitzgerald
I have been obsessed with this song by Gordon Lightfoot (thinking of changing my name to Matt Heavyfoot) for about a week now. I think one of the reasons for my obsession is that it tells such a good story. It’s about this giant freighter ship, The Edmund Fitzgerald, that went down during a big storm on Lake Superior. During the storm all 29 crew members were lost along with the ship. Gordon Lightfoot does an amazing ob telling the story. Check out the video and song and see if it does anything for you.
