Tech Tuesday – Real Phones Have Curves

29347

So this is what cell phones have come to? First, the smaller phone you had, the better it was. Then, people wanted bigger and bigger phones. The next direction obviously must be curved phones. The picture above is of LG’s G Flex smart phone. The first phone of its kind, sporting a 6″ curved display.

29349 The curved designed is accomplished by making the screen plastic instead of the normal glass, which LG says gives the phone an “IMAX-like experience”. I have been to quite a few movies at the IMAX theater in Providence and even though I have never used the phone I can confidently say it won’t be anything like an IMAX theater. Going out on a limb with that statement, but I think I could be right.

29353

As far as specs go you’re looking at basically a curved version of LG’s G2, which is a pretty sweet device. As of right now there is no release date, but if I had to guess you will be able to get this guy in your hands around mid November.

PS- I feel like if I put this phone in my pocket it will break. Just saying.

Emile Hirsch Cast as John Belushi For Untitled Biopic

(Source)Emile Hirsch has been cast as John Belushi in Steve Conrad’s untitled biopic about the larger-than-life comic actor.

Emjag’s Alexandra Milchan, Bonnie Timmermann, Film 360′s Scott Lambert and Judy Belushi Pisano are producing. Belsuhi Pisano was the actor’s high school sweetheart and had been his wife for six years at the time of his death in 1982.

Filming will start in New York City in the spring. Hirsch will be 29 when production starts.

Conrad will direct from his own script, adapted from the 2005 biography “Belushi,” written by Belushi Pisano and Tanner Colby.

Belushi’s “Saturday Night Live” castmate and close friend Dan Aykroyd is exec producing.

The film will cover the heights of Belushi’s fame in “The Blues Brothers” as Jake Blues and “Animal House” as John Blutarsky along with being the biggest star on the first four seasons of “Saturday Night Live.” The series, which launched in 1975,  included Belushi’s introductions of the Blues Brothers and Samurai Warrior characters along with memorable impressions of Wiliam Shatner, Joe Cocker, Marlon Brando and Elizabeth Taylor.

The film will also cover his unexpected death at age 33 from an overdose of a mixture of cocaine and heroin at the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles.

Hirsch will next be seen  in the miniseries “Bonnie and Clyde” and in “Lone Survivor” opposite Mark Wahlberg. His credits include “Into the Wild,” “Killer Joe” and “Milk.”

Conrad wrote the screenplay for Ben Stiller’s “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.”

Upcoming Film 360 projects include the untitled Steve Job biography, to be adapted by Aaron Sorkin; “Sesame Street”; and “Good People,” starring James Franco and Kate Hudson and currently in post-production.”

biopic

As a movie fan, this is a project to get excited about, and now that the main character has been cast, this untitled biopic has a chance to be great. Belushi was such a revolutionary figure in the television and movie world of the 1970s, so it’s nice to see his turbulent legacy will be celebrated on the big screen. Hirsch is as talented a young actor as there is in Hollywood, and I’m anxious to see how he begins to prepare for the role. It’s also always comforting to see that close friends and family are attached to the project. Let’s hope they get this one right and do the comic genius that was John Belushi justice.

There is No Such Thing as a Free Vacation to Canada

“If it’s too good to be true, it probably is,” goes the old saying. Apparently that goes double for “free” vacations.

Just ask an unnamed couple from Australia, who believed they’d won an all-expenses-paid trip to Canada — complete with free luggage — but unwittingly became drug mules instead. When they returned from a seven-day vacation in the Great White North on Oct. 13, the couple, a 72-year-old man and 64-year-old woman, approached customs officials in Perth, Australia, over concerns they had with their new bags.

Australian Federal Police examined the luggage and found 3.5 kilograms (7.7 pounds) of methamphetamine stashed in the lining of each bag, worth an estimated total of $7 million dollars. Perth Now reports the couple had apparently been scammed by “AusCan Tours,” a fake Canadian travel agency that lured them into entering an online competition. They were contacted by the agency afterward with the good news that the pair had won a free vacation. – HuffPost

Well, you know what they say…don’t accept a free vacation to Canada unless you’re willing to peddle 7.7 pounds of meth across international boarders. “Too good to be true” is not the adage I would have used for this situation. A free trip to Canada, you say? As soon as I read this I knew these people must have been either elderly or from somewhere other than North America. Oh, look at that, this couple is both! Because there is no way someone gets that jazzed up about visiting Canada, unless they are from another country….or are senior citizens.

cruise to canada

PS- I’ve been to Canada once. It was on a cruise, and my buddies and I got off the boat to go to a strip club. We found out it was closed (at 11:00am) and got back on the boat and never returned.

Casey Wagner Had Himself a Weekend

(Source) “An off-road racing enthusiast has survived being struck by lightning twice during the same storm in North Texas.

Casey Wagner said Sunday that doctors told him a tingling feeling would last for about a week.

KTVT-TV reports Wagner was at an off-road competition in Saint Jo, 85 miles northwest of Dallas, when storms arrived.

The 31-year-old Wagner was under a tree when he was hit by lightning. He dropped to his knees then he was struck again. Wagner says he saw sparks during the strikes.

A nurse who happened to be nearby cared for Wagner until he was taken to a hospital, where he was treated and released.

Wagner says he believes God kept him alive — and he plans to start going to church more.”

I wrestled in bar and went 6-6 in softball and I thought I had a great weekend. Then I read about Casey Wagner and my accomplishments don’t seem so great. Getting struck multiple times by lightning and stealing the spotlight. I’ll give credit where credit is due: Casey Wagner had one hell of a weekend.

– Ryan

P.S. I’m not saying God didn’t help this guy out, but next time you’re outside during a lightning storm, don’t stand under a free
