If You’re A Fan Of New Music, Today Is Your Lucky Day

Not only did we get the glorious return of football last night (with much more to come this Sunday) but we also got a BOAT LOAD of new music on Spotify. An actual big boat filled with music. Thomas Rhett released his new album (go listen to Leave Right Now…right now), Sam Smith released his new sob inducing single Too Good at Goodbyes, plus Kelly Clarkson, Blake Shelton, St. Vincent, Jack Johnson and a ton of other artists released new stuff. What I’m saying is you should stop reading this and go listen to that music right goddamn now.

Here’s Your First Look At Rami Malek As Freddie Mercury In ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’

There are few people in music history as recognizable as Queen frontman Freddie Mercury — and not just his face, but his four-octave voice and flamboyant physicality. Rami Malek is well aware of that fact.

“When you’re able to open your eyes and see a different person staring back at you in the mirror,” Malek says, recalling his first time in hair and makeup, “it’s a very affirming moment.”

The Mr. Robot star is preparing to play Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody (out Dec. 25, 2018), the Bryan Singer-directed film that chronicles Queen from 1970, when Mercury teamed with Brian May and Roger Taylor, until the band’s performance at Live Aid in 1985, six years before the singer died of complications from AIDS. Malek channels Mercury’s look from that global-concert event. Resembling the legendary musician, he says, “only adds to the level of confidence that one would need to play Freddie Mercury.” – EW

We have still a ways to go before Bohemian Rhapsody hits theaters, but whenever an actor takes on the part of playing another famous celebrity, it’s always important to get the look right. I think it’s safe to say Malek as Mercury is more than alright:

Beyond the look, the attribute most commonly associated with Mercury is his voice, which I like to describe as a combination between an angel whispering in your ear and all of your wildest dreams coming true. Christmas 2018 can’t get here soon enough.

A Pizza Hut In Sugar Land, Texas Is Delivering Free Pizzas To People Stuck In Their Homes During Hurricane Harvey

Pizza Hut is making a special delivery to Texas residents trapped in their homes by Hurricane Harvey.

Employees at the Oak Lake store in Sugar Land, Texas used kayaks to wade through flooded streets to deliver pizzas to victims who lived nearby – and it was all free of charge.

Shayda Habib, the manager of the Pizza Hut location, told KPRC 2 News that when she heard there were families nearby who couldn’t leave their homes and were running low on food she decided she needed to help.

“I called my husband and asked him to gather up kayaks and meet me at the restaurant,” she said.

Habib said she and some of the workers started making as many pizzas as they could and then loaded the food onto the kayaks and delivered them to the hungry families.

Habib told the Houston Chronicle that she and her employees delivered 120 pizzas on Tuesday to residents living in the area.

“The people in the houses didn’t expect us to come,” she told the outlet. “It was so nice to see their smiles after so much gloom.” – NY Daily News

It’s hard to look on the bright side when there’s so much damage and devastation happening in the Houston area, but Shayda Habib and Pizza Hut are doing their best to keep people’s spirits up. This is such a great move, and I hope to see more stories like this come out in the coming days and weeks. We’ve seen a ton of money being raised as well, most notably JJ Watt and $10 million You Caring campaign. Hopefully everyone down in Houston is able to stay safe, and may they have as much help as humanly possible during the recovery.

The Nindies 2017 Summer Showcase gives Switch owners a lot to be excited about

PAX West is upon us! Yesterday, my YouTube subscription box was flooded with Nintendo videos from their Nindies Summer Showcase. Let Damon Barker show you (video below) some of the great indie titles coming to the switch this year, and beyond.

Ok, that’s a lot of great games (new and old) coming to the Switch. I have to say, I’m very impressed with how Nintendo has been bolstering the Switch’s catalogue. What started out as a very slim launch lineup, with a couple big “tentpole” games being released throughout the year (Splatoon 2, Mario Odyssey), has turned into an extremely strong library of both physical and download-only titles.

Below is most of the games announced at the Nindies Summer Showcase along side their release dates. I’ve also included links to some of their trailers. That’s the kind of guy I am, it’s all about our readers. I ask for nothing in return*.

Happy SWITCHing…get it?!
