SNL Will Be Without Jay Pharoah, Taran Killam and Jon Rudnitsky For It’s Upcoming Season

NBC – Three cast members will not return for the 42nd season of “Saturday Night Live,” an NBC spokeswoman confirmed.

Jay Pharoah and Taran Killam, who have each been on the show for six seasons, and Jon Rudnitsky, who joined “SNL” just last season as a featured player, are all exiting.

Pharoah, 28, and Killam, 34, are known for their celebrity impersonations: Pharoah for his Barack Obama and Jay-Z, and Killam for his Matthew McConaughey and Brad Pitt, among many others.

A fan-created website,, lists 95 impressions and 15 characters in Killam’s repertoire — making him the most versatile current cast member.

SNL is going to look a lot different when it premieres it’s 42nd second next month, as veteran cast members Jay Pharoah and Taran Killam, plus newcomer Jon Rudnitsky, will all be exiting. Rudnitsky isn’t much of a surprise, as he was used sparingly, but did have one of my favorite Weekend Update moments when he re-enacted the Dirty Dancing final dance number. On the other hand, Pharoah and Killam both come as a shock. Both actors have been on the show for six seasons, and were two of the stronger performers on what has become a really enjoyable cast. It’s especially surprising considering that the first few months of sketches will most likely feature a lot of political topics, and Pharoah and Killam play a slew of political figures, including Obama, Ben Carson, Ted Cruz, Paul Ryan and Marco Rubio. While Trump (played by Darrell Hammond) and Clinton (played by Kate McKinnon) will still be around, it’s tough to imagine SNL without two of it’s best impressionists. Lorne Michaels has found the magic in performers before, and with Kate McKinnon already a breakout star, it’s time for one of the male cast members to follow suit. Season 42 of SNL premieres this fall.
